Bohemian style is definitely one of my favourites. Not only you can easily express yourself but you also have a perfect excuse to use all of your vintage finds and make it as eclectic as you wish. Our spare bedroom is currently used as a guest room. That made it a perfect candidate for a low budget styling.
During the renovation we focused on making this room clean and neutral. It was very budget-friendly since we already had a lot of white paint. You probably won’t be able to see this on the pictures, but all of the walls were covered in textured wallpaper and in general not in the best condition. There was also a weird build-in shelf in the middle of the chimney breast. The worst part though, was the other shelving unit. The plan was to recreate the original chimney alcove and hide the pipes. Unfortunately during the works it turned out there was a structural issue. See how the wall had that weird triangle on top? Well we weren’t able to get rid of that so we ended up with a smaller alcove that doesn’t go all the way to the ceiling.
Another change was the flooring. We are just not a carpet people, so we went with wood flooring in Tobacco oil finish. We also changed the radiator to a traditional column one. We did that in every room we had to change the floors in, so it wouldn’t be a problem in the future.
Pretty much every single item is vintage. The chest of drawers was a car boot find and I hand painted it (you can read more about it here). The wicker chair is an ebay bargain. Not quite a full on peacock chair but it does the trick.
Another ebay find: wicker/rattan bookcase unit. I don’t like how it’s whitewashed, but I decided to leave it as it is. My most recent purchase is this mid-century plant stand. I found it at one of my favourite London vintage fairs – So Last Century.
For the wardrobe I used a bamboo door curtain with the image of Frida Kahlo. It’s probably the only brand new item, but it wasn’t expensive and I just had to have it.
The room is facing South (or maybe slightly South East), which means it’s bright and sunny almost all day long. I love having my plants there and it goes perfect with the bohemian vibe. I’m sure I will make more changes, but for now I’m pleased with the result.
